The Argument

Circa 1977. Two adjacent frames from a roll of 120 film.

I was sitting between mum and dad. I dont think they noticed me taking the pictures. Later in life its easier to see how arguments between people can focus the energies to the exclusion of all.

I was 16 at the time and still can recall taking the photographs, using the camera as a way of distancing myself perhaps but years later the images help give me a better understanding of what was happening then.

Not common to see pictures from a real argument, I photographed the hurt feelings of the listener as the other person shouted. Life it seems is not straightforward.

Chariots of fire

Olympic changing room scene filmed at Cowley boys school

The Summer of 1979 being the end of secondary education for me it was a treat when a film company used the school as a location in the final week of term. Being a little less than honest in saying “I was from the school magazine” I was fortunate that the director Hugh Hudson allowed me to photograph the scene he was filming in the changing room. This was destined to be the Paris Olympics changing room towards the end of the film “Chariots of fire”. Click on the image to see the whole sequence from 1979.

common name

I attended a function in London recently. One of the attendees asked my name and when I told him his instant reply was that it was a very common and undistinguished name. A little abrupt but he had a point.
